    James “Jim” Wiley, 79, of Keosauqua, Iowa passed away on September 15, 2018 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born on December 9, 1938 to Ralph and Anna Grimes Wiley in Van Buren County, Iowa. Jim grew up near Cantril, attended Wiley Country School and later graduated from Cantril High School in 1956. On June 8, 1958 Jim married the love of his life, Marilyn Hervey. Jim and Marilyn have both lived their entire life in Van Buren County and together, they raised four children, Randy, Linda, Wesley and Rob on the family farm.

    Jim worked for Van Buren County for more than 30 years and retired as a Secondary Roads Foreman. Shortly after retirement he went to work at Randy’s Plumbing where he was able to work alongside his son and grandson. Jim could fix anything and if he didn’t have the proper tool to get the job done, he made the right tool for the job. He was a hard worker who farmed in evenings and spent all of his available time with his wife and children. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his family deeply and will be missed by those he leaves behind.

    He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three sons, Randy (Melinda) Wiley of Cantril, Wesley (Carrie) Wiley of Silt, Colorado; Rob (Beth) Wiley of Keosauqua; a daughter, Linda (Stan) Whitten of Keosauqua; nine grandchildren, Eric (Jeni) Wiley of Douds, Iowa; Miranda (Mark) Levin of Anchorage, Alaska; Kyla (Ryan) Loucks of Clive, Iowa; Noah and Hallie Whitten of Keosauqua, Iowa; Shannon (Mike) Tucker of Wayland, Iowa; Jacob Wiley of Leadville, Colorado; Colton Wiley of Rifle, Colorado; Hannah Wiley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Barb Short of Cantril, Helen Hamburg of Cantril, Sue (Edwin) Burchett of Milton; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Ricky Lee Wiley; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Helen Hervey; and two brothers-in-law, Dwight Short, Jack Hamburg.

    Per Jim’s wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Pedrick Funeral Home - Keosauqua with Larry Shipley officiating. Visitation will open at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018 with family present to greet friends from 5 - 7:00 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home - Keosauqua. A private burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Center Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Center Chapel Cemetery or to the family to be designated at a later date.

    RALPH R. WILEY

    Ralph R. Wiley, son of Wesley and Julia Starr Wiley, was born March 21, 1911, near Keosauqua, and departed this life Friday, September 22, 1978, at his home in Cantril at the age of 67.

    On February 20, 1933, he was married to Anna Pearl Grimes at Memphis, Missouri. They farmed in Van Buren County until retiring to Cantril in 1974.

    Remaining to cherish his memory are his faithful wife, Anna; three daughters, Barbara Short and Helen Hamburg, both of Cantril and Sue Burchett of Milton; one son, Jim Wiley of Keosauqua; 15 grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. May Matheson of Keosauqua, a brother, Stan of Cantril, other relatives and many friends.

    Ralph will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, whose primary interests were his home and family.

    Funeral services were held Sunday, September 24, 1978 at 2 p.m. at the Cantril United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Edward Kail, pastor, and the Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Mrs. Merle McDonald was the organist. Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Bennett, Fred Burkett, Craig Van Auken, Earl Keller, and Clyde Kerr. Active bearers were Bernard Beggs, William Sullivan, Ronald Robinson, Jerry Smith, Larry Archer, and Roy Roberts. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery at Cantril. Pedricks Funeral Home, Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements. A memorial was established.

    Anna Pearl Grimes Wiley, 93, of Cantril, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

    A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cantril United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Rekward and the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.

    Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where the family will be present from 6:30-8 p.m.

    Memorials to Cantril United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 224, Cantril 52542.

    Mrs. Wiley was born May 25, 1913, near Libertyville, the daughter of James W. and Myrtle Campbell Grimes. She married Ralph R. Wiley Feb. 20, 1933, in Memphis, Mo. He died Sept. 22, 1978.

    Mrs. Wiley moved to Van Buren County at the age of 13. She and her husband farmed in Van Buren County and retired to Cantril in 1973. She was a homemaker and had cooked at Starlite Cafe in Cantril.

    Mrs. Wiley was a member of Cantril United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Esther Circle Quilters. In her youth, she had been baptized in the Presbyterian church.

    Survivors include one son, Jim Wiley and wife Marilyn of rural Keosauqua; three daughters, Barbara Short and husband Dwight of Cantril, Helen Hamburg and husband Jack of rural Cantril and Sue Burchett and husband Edwin of rural Milton; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

    In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one twin brother, William Verle in infancy; two brothers, Cecil and Clive Grimes; two sisters, Cloris Wiley and Intha Mae Grimes; and one grandson.

    Anna Wiley, 93, Cantril

    CANTRIL - Anna Pearl Grimes Wiley, 93, of Cantril departed this life and entered into eternal rest with her Lord Dec. 8, 2006 at Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant.

    She was born May 25, 1913 near Libertyville with a twin brother, William Verle, who died in infancy, to James W. and Myrtle Campbell Grimes. She moved with her family to Van Buren County at the age of 13. She married Ralph R. Wiley Feb. 20, 1933 in Memphis, MO. He preceded her in death Sept. 22, 1978. The Wileys farmed in Van Buren County and retired to Cantril in 1973. Anna was a farm homemaker, cooked at Starlite Cafe, Cantril, and was a member of Cantril United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Esther Circle Quilters. As a youth, she had been baptized in the Presbyterian Church.

    ROBERT W. HERVEY
    Robert W. Hervey, son of John W. and Grace Sell Hervey, was born January 16, 1912, and departed this life Monday, August 28, 1978 at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield at
    the age of 66.

    He had farmed and retired because of failing health. He was a sales representative for the National Motor Club
    .
    On April 10, 1936, he married Helen Krebill at Keosauqua, Iowa. She remains to cherish his memory along with their three daughters, Mrs. Jim Leuck of North Manchester, Ind. . Mrs. Jim Wiley of Keosauqua. and Mrs. Jim Clark of Forest Lake, Minn.; one son, Roger of Galena, III.; 14 grand children; five sisters, Mrs. Gladys Beggs, Keosauqua, Mrs. Elmer Mellen. Gary Summitt, Mo. Mrs. Herb Duke, Gallatin, Mo., Mrs. Guy Mumford, Keosauqua, and Mrs. Wanda Akey. Seattle, Washington, other relatives and many friends. A son, Hollis, grandson Ricky, one brother Willard. one sister, Lucille preceded him in death.

    He was a long time member of the Center Chapel United Methodist Church.

    He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a good neighbor and friend.

    Funeral services were held Thursday, August 31, 1978 at 2 P. M. at the Center Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev· John Cornish officiating. Interment was in the
    Center Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.

    Obituary

    Helen D. Hervey

    Helen D. Hervey, daughter of Otto and Abigail Schowalter Krebill, was bom August 25, 1917 in Donnellson, Iowa and died Thursday, July 7, 1983 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 65. She graduated from Donnellson High School, attended Iowa Wesleyan College, and taught achool.

    On April 11, 1936, she married Robert Hervey at Keosauqua. They farmed in the Center Chapel community south of Keosauqua.

    Mr. Hervey died in 1978. Also preceding her in death were a son, Hollis, a brother, Homer Krebill and a grandson, Rickey Wiley.

    Helen was a long-time active member of the Center Chapel United Methodist Church, and attended the Keosauqua United Methodist Church since moving to town. She was co-president of the Keosauqua United Methodist Women and a volunteer worker with the Happy Day Express Preschool at the Keosauqua church.

    For a number of years she was coordinator of the Keosauqua Neighborhood Center, and until her last illness was employed at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center. She volunteered her talents in a variety of services to the community. She and her husband sang and played gospel, folk and popular music at many community gatherings and on a regular basis at the Good Samaritan Center prior to his death. Her contributions to the happiness of others will be remembered as a fitting memorial to her life of service.

    Remaining are a son, Roger of Galena,. llL.; and three daughters, Roberta Leuck, North Manchester; Ind.; Marilyn Wiley, Keosauqua; and Sharon Clark, Forest Lake, Minn. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, one great grandson, and two brothers, Marvin Krebill, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Dwight Krebill, Donnellson, other relatives and many friends.

    Funeral services were held Monday, July 11, 1983 at 3 p.m. in the Keosauqua United Methodist Church, with Dr. Louise Spears and Rev.Louise Knupp officiating.

    Interment was in Center Chapel Cemetery. Memorials were established for the American Cancer Society and the Happy Day Express pre-school. Arrangemetns were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
