    GALENA, Ill. -- Erin A. Schoenhard, 23, of Galena, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, of the eating disorders, anorexia and bulimia, a disease she struggled with the past eight years.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Galena Bible Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena.

    She was born on Aug. 1, 1984, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, daughter of Carl Jr. and Ann (Oldenburg) Schoenhard. Erin graduated from Wahlert High School in 2002, with high honors. She graduated from Loras College in May 2007, with a bachelor of science degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. She planned to attend pharmacy graduate school in the fall of 2008.

    She was presently working at the Locust Street Hy-Vee Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician.

    Erin always had a smile on her face and her personality would brighten up a room. She loved her horse, Java, competing in numerous equestrian competitions where fun was more important than winning. She enjoyed her numerous pets, especially her newest kitten, Maddie. She also enjoyed spending quality time with her many friends, as well as spending time on the lake fishing with her brother, Blaine. Erin cherished the special times spent with her nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    Surviving are her parents, Carl Jr. and Ann; her brothers, Blaine and Jon (Jodi) Schoenhard, both of Galena; her sisters, Jody (Mark) Calvert, of Galena, Sharie (Tim) Maloney, of Lake Forest, and Kim, of Florida; her grandparents, Francis (Dorothy) Oldenburg and Lorraine Schoenhard, all of Galena; her boyfriend, Sean Carter, of Galena; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Carl "Bud" Schoenhard; an aunt, Sherry Oldenburg; a cousin, Tony Oldenburg; and her uncle, Jim Schoenhard.

    Because Erin put others before herself she was able to donate her organs through the Iowa Donor Network to give the gift of life to seven recipients in the Midwest.

    The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the Galena Police Department, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Department, the Galena EMT's, Midwest Medical Center and the staff in the Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Room at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque.

    Carl B. Schoenhard Jr.of Galena, IL passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life service will be 11 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Galena Bible Church. A Celebration of Life reception with family will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Galena Bible Church. Burial will be at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born September 7, 1936 in Galena the son of Carl Sr. and Lorraine (Hess) Schoenhard. Carl graduated from Galena High School in 1954. He was united in marriage to Ann D. Oldenburg on June 30, 1979 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, IA. Carl graduated from Galena High School in 1956. For eight years he was in the Naval Reserves. Carl graduated from Wisconsin Institute of Technology (UWP) in January 1960, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering. After graduating from college, Carl went to work for St. Joseph Lead Company in Bonne Terre, Missouri, as a Mine Research Engineer. In 1963, Carl took a job with the Illinois State Highway Department in Dixon, IL, as a Civil Engineer. While working for the State of Illinois, Carl started the Consulting Engineering and Surveying Company known as Transportation and Development Engineers, Inc., located in Dixon, IL. In 1970, Carl and his brother James started the business of Schoenhard-Schoenhard and Associated Consulting Engineering and Surveying Firm in Galena. In 1978, Carl sold the consulting firm to Bert B. Hanson Consulting Engineers & Surveyors of West Union, Iowa. In 1980, Carl bought Herb Shelly Construction Company and built box culverts and small bridges for the State of Illinois. In 1982, Carl built and became co-owner of Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor in Galena. Also in 1982, Carl started IIW Engineers & Surveyors in Dubuque, IA. In 1988, Carl bought Lumber Specialties Floor & Roof Truss Manufacturing Plant in Dyersville, IA. In 1999, Carl sold IIW Engineers & Associates to the employees (ESOP) and went fulltime as President of Lumber Specialties. Carl retired in 2014. Carl & Ann purchased the Schoenhard family farm in 1984 on which they now live. Carl is survived by his loving wife, Ann, his children, Blaine (Trisha) Schoenhard III P.E. of Dubuque, Sharie (Tim) Maloney of Spring Island, SC, Jon (Jodi) Schoenhard of Lake Havasu, AZ, and Jody (Mark) Calvert of Galena. His grandchildren Lilian Erin and Caden Schoenhard, Hayley Winter, Ryan (Jessica), Brett and Cliff Arns, Taylor (John) Eckelberger, Will and Caitlin Maloney, Brittany and Tifani Woolley, A.J., Christian and Hailey Schoenhard, Tyler, Natalie and Kristen Calvert, one great-grandchild, Brooke Woolley. He was preceded in death by his daughters Erin Ann and Kim Schoenhard, his parents Carl Sr. & Lorraine, his brother, James, two sisters, Kathyl Warning and Carlyne Orr. Carl never turned down an opportunity to play golf and was always sure to win the “drink” hole. Carl fought cancer since 1991 and stayed positive in his fight, he succumb to liver cancer. The family requests no flowers, instead donations can be made to Hospice of Dubuque or Galena Bible Church.     GALENA, Ill. - Francis B. Oldenburg, 96, of Galena, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community.

    Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galena. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where there will be a scripture wake service at 3 p.m.

    He was born on Sept. 1, 1914, on the family farm in Galena, son of Albert and Helena (Schnerre) Oldenburg. He married Dorothy M. Weber on April 8, 1942, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler, Wis.

    Francis farmed the family farm from 1942 to 1980, until his retirement. The family farm became an Illinois Century Family Farm in 1977.

    He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Galena, where he served on the parish council and also was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus of Galena. He also was a member of the Galena Elks Lodge for many years and was the Rawlins Township road commissioner for 12 years. Francis was an avid member of the Cast Iron Seats Club, traveling to many antique sales collecting cast iron seats and other farm collectibles.

    He enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. Francis enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards and watching the Cubs. He was always there to listen or lend a helping hand whenever anyone needed help. He never turned anyone down.

    Surviving are his loving wife, Dorothy, of almost 69 years on April 8; his children, Bill (Karon) Oldenburg, Ann (Carl) Schoenhard and John (Tammy) Oldenburg, all of Galena; his grandchildren, Angie (friend, Jay) Young, of Fairbanks, Alaska, Julie (Mike) Kapparos and Jody (Mark) Calvert, both of Galena, Blaine (Trisha) Schoenhard, of Dubuque, Rachel, Adrienne and April Oldenburg, all of Galena; great-grandchildren, Nathan Oldenburg, of Boscobel, Wis., Andrea Oldenburg, of Minneapolis, D.J. Dad would love that and it will take a multitude of us praying on earth to make up for the prayers of the one whom now lives in Heaven. In all things, our Dad trusted in the Lord. For Dad to see God face to face, we can only imagine the depths of his joy. But we remain here with all our tears to cry, because this incredible man meant the world to us. We will trust in God as taught to us and we will find comfort in knowing, "Those that believe in the Lord never see each other for the last time." Dad, we're counting on it. We love you.     Dorothy M. Oldenburg

    Dorothy M. Oldenburg, 95, of Galena, passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community, Galena.

    Dorothy was born on Aug. 7, 1919, on the family farm in Kieler, Wis., daughter of George and Mathilda (Kieler) Weber of Kieler, Wis. She married Francis Oldenburg on April 8, 1942, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler. Francis passed away on March 16, 2011.

    Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Galena, and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, holding several positions and was also a member of the church choir. They moved to the family farm in Galena, in 1942, and resided there until their retirement in 1980. The family farm became an Illinois Century Family Farm in 1977. Dorothy was a 4-H leader for the Pleasant View 4-H Club and a member of the Busy Fingers Quilting Club of Galena. Dorothy served on the Rawlins Township election board for years. She was also a member of the Jo Daviess Country Extension. Dorothy enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always having ice cream treats to hand out. Dorothy was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting, showing others how to hand quilt and the details of sewing for an excellent finish project. She also made colorful and seasonal bibs for the Galena Nursing Home residents. She enjoyed traveling with Francis in the United States and abroad.
