Mason/Bricklayer

Emigrated to U.S.A. in January 1856 with his family and his brother Johannes.

Information in a letter from the Swiss Archives (regarding brother Johannes):

He went to America with his brother Jakob and Jakob's family in 1856. He returned home to S itzerland in 1881 or 1882 with his brother. He never married.

On January 11th, 1856 the following Angsts were issued a permit for America:

Jakob Angst, farmer, age 47. (PP 38.50, No. 24)
Jakob Angst, mason, age 47, with his wife and the children Jakob, age 15,
Adam, age 9, Konrad, age 6. Personal description of Jakob Angst: 5 feet,
2.2 inches tall; black hair and eye brows, brown eyes, pointed nose, large
mouth, round chin. (PP 38.50, No. 27)
Johannes Angst, farmer, age 31. (PP 38.50, No. 28)

Bearers of the Family Name Angst were documented as early as 1470 in
Eglisau and apparently 1488 in Wil. Not many of the documents from these early times have su rvived which is why it is impossible to determine the place the Angst Family originated earlier.

Jakob (1809-1893) and his brother Johannes Angst (1824-1896)
came back to Switzerland. Jakob Angst died at the farm Lirenhof above the village Wil the 13. September. 1893 (mentioned as husband and not as widower of Elisabeth Ritz ! ). So he should returned back to Switzerland before the death of his wife (1881). The death was recorded in 1893 because of the claim of his housekeeper, the widow Anna Neukom.

His brother Johannes, of whom you have written, that you don't know his
fate, died the 18 March 1896 in Rafz, a neighbor-village of Wil. He
stayed there unmarried and without any work.

Hans married Ritz, Elisabetha on 21 May 1838 in Bülach, Zürich, Switzerland. Elisabetha (daughter of Ritz, Hans Martin and Hilpert, Anna Barbara) was born on 14 Oct 1807 in Hüntwangen, Zürich, Switzerland; died on 18 Sep 1881 in Centerville, Appanoose, Iowa, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

5. Angst, Adam was born on 27 Nov 1844 in Wil, Zürich, Switzerland; died on 27 Aug 1914 in Centerville, Appanoose, Iowa, USA; was buried on 29 Aug 1914 in Sharon, Appanoose, Iowa, USA.
