Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Petit, Lucy was born in 1795 in Kentucky, USA (daughter of Petit, Thomas and Owens, Behethelon); died in 1831 in Washington, Kentucky, USA.

    Notes:

IGI batch 7732027, p.67, lists marriage of Elijah Jefferies and Lucy Pettit on 12 Aug 1818 in Washington Co., Ky.

IGI Batch 7605414, p.64, lists marriage of Elijah Jeffries and Lucy Pettit on 13 Aug 1818 in Washington Co., Ky.

Lucy married Jeffries, Rev, Elijah on 10 Aug 1818 in Washington, Kentucky, USA. Elijah was born on 26 Jan 1799 in Jamestown, Surry Co., VA; died on 8 Jan 1869 in Hale, Carroll, Missouri, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Petit, Thomas was born about 1760 (son of Pettit, Obadiah and Hedges, Ann); died in 1834 in Washington, Kentucky, USA.

    Notes:

Marriage of Thomas Pettit & Behethelon Owen on 16 Apr 1785 is listed in the IGI in three submissions: batch 7013802, p. 97, batch 7732027, p. 68, and batch 8330802, p. 84. They all have the same date and county, but Thomas' name is spelled twice as Pettit and once as Pettet, and his bride's name is spelled variously as Bethethelon Owens, Behethelon Owens, and Bethelon Owen. The second submission is the same one that lists all the Washington Co. Ky marriages of the children listed in the 1834 will of Thomas of that county, which is how I conclude that these are the same individual. Note that the first submission is the same one that listed the marriage of Nathaniel Pettet and Rebecca Owen. (This submission also includes a marriage of Samuel Pettit and Elizabeth Bragg on 10 Dec 1783 in Fauquier Co., VA.)

Will of Thomas Pettit, recorded 7 Sep 1834 in Washington Co., Ky, lists daughters Lucy, Harriet, Jane, and Sally, and son William H. This will is indexed in the IGI, batch 7811106, p.45

Thomas married Owens, Behethelon on 16 Apr 1785 in Farquier Co., Virginia. Behethelon (daughter of Owens, Nathaniel and (Marder), Ann) was born in 1765 in Virginia; died in 1837 in Washington Co., Kentucky. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Owens, Behethelon was born in 1765 in Virginia (daughter of Owens, Nathaniel and (Marder), Ann); died in 1837 in Washington Co., Kentucky.
    Children:
    1. Petit, Sally O. was born on 3 Apr 1786 in Fauquier Co., Virginia; died on 16 Aug 1861 in Washington, Kentucky, USA.
    2. 1. Petit, Lucy was born in 1795 in Kentucky, USA; died in 1831 in Washington, Kentucky, USA.
    3. Petit, Eliza Ann was born on 6 Dec 1800 in Fauquier Co., VA; died on 19 May 1886 in Knox Co., Missouri, USA; was buried in Knox County, Missouri, USA.
    4. Petit, Harriet was born about 1801 in Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., KY.
    5. Petit, Jane was born in in Virginia, USA.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Pettit, Obadiah was born about 1730 (son of Pettit, Elias and Furman, Jane); died before 23 Jan 1808 in Kentucky, USA.

A letter from Sylvia Pettit Welch, of 511 Townsend St., Lansing, Michigan, on file at the Kentucky Historical Society Library, and dated Aug 1st 1832, but obviously intending 1932 as it mentions many marriage and death dates after 1832 and even into the 1900's, says:

"Obediah and Zedacia Pettit brothers of near Lynchburg, Va., came to Fayette Co. Ky about the beginning of the last century (1800). Obediah married Ann (surname unknown). Their children: Keturiah; Nathaniel married Rebecca Owens; William married Betsey Davis; Samuel married Elizabeth Bragg; Mary married Richard Roberts; Elizabeth married Francis Walden; John H. married Catherine M. a sister of Sarah Campbell; Thomas married Behethelon Owens."

(1745 Meredith Lane, Belleair, Clearwater, Florida 34616)

Obadiah Pettit (Will Book 6, page 55, Fauquier Co., Va.) was from Somerset Co., NJ; his mother was Jane Furman Pettit. Her will, filed under her maiden name, is in the Somerset Co., NJ records (Vol. 5 NJ, Wills, 193-4, NJ Archives). The will dated 12 Dec. 1770, proved 1773, names sons, Obadiah and Zedekiah. These brothers migrated to Culpepper Co., Va. about 1770; Obadiah sold his land there in 1776 and bought land in Fauquier Co., Va.

Francis Waldron (sometimes misspelled Walden) married 12 Oct. 1795, Fauquier Co., Va. Nancy Ann, daughter of Obadiah Pettit and his spouse, Ann H. (probably Hedges). Shortly after their marriage Nancy and Francis Waldron moved to Brooke Co., Va. (now W. Va.) with two sisters of Nancy and their families: Mary Pettit Roberts and Spouse Richard; Elizabeth Pettit McDaniels, spouse, Joseph. In 1811 Francis and Nancy Pettit Waldron moved to Jefferson County, Ohio; she died there prior to 1833 and he in October 1835, in Bloomfield, Jefferson Co., where they were buried.

The will of John H. Pettit, dated 24 July 1830, proved 28 Feb. 1831, named wife, Catey and nephew John, son of Obadiah and Nancy A. Waldron (this will probably in Bloomfield Station, Jefferson Co., Ohio, is filed in Will Book 12, page 21, Fauquier Co., Va.)
