I have been researching the Humphrey family in Kentucky for many years. This is my mother's line. I recently spent some time in Washington County doing some research and I have found a problem regarding Rufus Humphrey b. 1814.

I found the Probate inventory, possibly of his assumed father, George Humphrey, dated 1809 and the sale of his estate dated 1813, long before Rufus was born. No will has been found. However, according to a summary of the Washington County Guardian Bonds records, three of his children (Martin, Sally, William) were turned over to his father-in-law, William Kendrick for Guardianship. If his death was after Rufus' birth, Rufus, being younger than these three, should be listed also. I am now trying to get the original Guardianship Bond records to check the dates.

Additionally, I found that the family in Washington County were Methodist and Rufus was a Baptist preacher.

I have scoured the internet forums and postings and I can find no evidence that Rufus was a child of George Humphrey and Elizabeth Kendrick and there are now these dependencies.

I am inclined to conclude that Rufus is not presently connected to the correct parents. Do you have any records that would help clear this up?
