    Notes:

    John was ten years old at the death of his father and his mother Abigail wasappointed his guardian 9 Nov 1725, "she giving bond according to Law".

    The records of Lyme show that 27 Jan 1730, show that John Harvey, son of Thomasdec'd "records the ear marks of his cattle".

    When he was nineteen years old his mother and step father conveyed to him "inconsideration of our goodwill and natural affection that we bear to our lovingson John Harvey all our right of land in ye 3rd part of ye 4th division of landin said Lyme. To be taken up in land in said division that accrues to us by yerights of Richard Smith Sr., and Richard Smith Jr, and James Smith, all of saidLyme dec'd. unto which said Abigail is heir". These "rights" called for 17and one half acres which were "laid out to John Harvey ye 3rd" 21 April 1735on the West side of Nikerson's Hill. Nickerson's Hill is 485 feet high and isthe highest point in Lyme.

    In Dec 1738 he bought 16 acres on Nickerson' Hill for £35. In Feb 1739 hebought eight more acres for £74. In January 1741 he purchased his brotherRichard's one fifth interest in 60 acres of land at Eight-mile river inheritedfrom their father, for £45.

    After their marriage John and Elizabeth Harvey lived at Nickerson's Hill until1742, when they moved to the adjoining town of East Haddam.

    9 July 1758 he "united on Confession" with the Congregational Church ofMillington Parish, East Haddam. Eight of his children were baptised there in1758 and four more in 1759.

    The family moved to New London, Connecticut in 1682 and then to Lyme in NewLondon County, Connecticut in 1687.

    6 May 1704 he recorded his "ear mark", formerly William Lord's.

    In October 1707 Thomas sold the rights and interest in the property he hadinherited from his father's estate in January 1705 to his brother, John.

    Later he bought a tract of land "lying in the crotch of Eight Mile River" atNorth Lyme and another 60 acres on Eight Mile River Hill. A short time beforehis death he bought forty-seven acres at "a place called Mt. Archer" in NorthLyme.

    The Court of Probates, New London 7 May 1725 granted administration rights tohis brother John , on his "goods, chattels and credits his widow Abigailrefusing the same".

    The inventory of the estate amounted to £104 10s 2d including " 1 old Bible, 1new Bible 1 Sarmon Book". His debts amounted to £33, 16s 1d, leaving fordistribution £70, 14s 1d which was distributed by the Court 7 Nov 1726 asfollows

    To the Relic of the deceased a third part of the reale estate during hernaturale life, being £15, 13s 4d, and a third part of the personell estate tobe at her dispose forever being £7, 18s. To the eldest daughter Joanne,nothing, she having had her portion during his lifetime (as the administratorinforms the court). To Thomas, the eldest son a double portion, being £8, 17s1d, and to each of the other children, namely, John, Richard and Abigail asingle portion being £9, 7s 6d.

    John Harvey, son of Thomas, the emigrant settler, was born in Taunton, Mass., about 1647, and married in 1675. In 1686, Mr. Harvey purchased land of Isaac Willey which lay mostly within the limits of Lyme, Conn. This was in what is the present town of Salem, which was formed in 1819 out of portions of Lyme, Colchester and Montville. Mr. Harvey died in Lyme, Jan. 18, 1705, and his wife Jan. 9, 1709. Their children were: John, born in 1676, died in 1767; Thomas, born in 1678, died in 1725; Elizabeth, born in 1680, died in 1752; and Mary and Sarah, twins born in 1682, died in 1705.

    In Edward Stockers Will, probated 12 April 1754 he left his" beloved wifeAbigail, £100 old tender out of my movable estate, also I give unto my 3rd wifeall the movables she brought with her when I married her viz the bed and bedingshe now lies on, all her wearing apparrel, a chest and trunk one iron pot afrying pan one pint bason. In satisfaction of her whole Dower".

    After the death of her second husband Edward Stocker Abigail moved to EastHaddam, Connecticut where her sons, Thomas and John were living.
