    Christina came across the Atlantic Ocean when she was 9 months old. She was blind. Once the doctors took out a small pea sized growth from the back of her neck she got sight. She had two brothers, Al and John, and three sisters, "Lou", Annie, and Theresa. Theresa's daughters were in the Theater. Theresa lived in Rockford, IL. "Lou" lived in St. Louis, Mo. Annie lived in Galena.? The Banswingers were aristocratic people of Germany and didn't want their daughter to come to America.:

    WILLIAM THORNTON DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER HERE

    William Thonton passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Oscar Green a 1:45 Monday afternoon. Mr. Thornton had been in poor health for about three years and his serious illness came only two weeks ago.

    He was born in Ottawa, Ill., June 1, 1850. Before coming to Galena four years ago to make his home with his daughter, he had lived most of the time in Dougherty, Ia. His wife preceded him in death 47 years ago.

    He is survived by his daughters Mrs. Harry Green and Mrs. Oscar Green of Galena; Mrs. Carl Becker, Chicago; and Mrs. William Green, Dubuque, Iowa; and one son, Edward Thornton of Austin, Minn. Two other children died in infancy. One son, John, passed away 6 years ago. He was the last of his family, his sister, Mrs. Mary Downing, having passed away six weeks ago. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

    William Thornton

    Galena. Dec 29 Funeral Services for William Thornton, 87, who died ath the home of his daughter Mrs. Oscar Green306 4th Street, at 1:45 p.m., Monday after an illness of three years, were held here today.

    Mr. Thornton was born in Ottawa June 1, 1850. He lived for a tom in Dorothy, Ia., and came to Galena four years ago. Mr. Thornton's wife died 47 years ago.

    He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Oscar Green and Mrs. Harry Green of Galena, Mrs. Carl Becker of Chicago and Mrs. William Green of Dubuque, Ia., one sone, Edward Thornton of Austin, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

    He is preceded in death by two children in infancy and a son, John six years ago. His sister, Mrs. Mary Downing died six weeks ago.

    David Williams. one of the three men who captured Major Andre, the British Spy, was his great uncle; married Mrs.

    1819; came to the U. S, in 1844; had ten children by her first marriage, only one or whom is now living, James B. Gretton:
    they now have two children, Marcus deLafayette, and Louisa Montez; owns 200 Acres of Land

    Note: It is now believed that wife Charity and he first emmigrated to Illinois in 1835 and then at some point after daughter Sarah's birth in Illinois in 1838 to Iowa and then back to Galena in 1843. This conclusion is from Barnabus's obituary which states that Barnabus was born in Iowa in 1842 and then moved with his parents to Galena when he was one year old.

    Notes:

    Michael was a Master Tailor for the Austrian Ruling Family and his wife Anna was a professional cook for the same family. He took an oath of citizenship in the town of Baden, Austria in 1827. He was married in Vienna in 1827 and immigrated to America in 1838. He immigrated from Hamburg to New Orleans 1 OCT 1838. The original documents were kept by John A. Binninger in his copy of the "History of the 96th Regiment." The book and its contents survived a disasterous house fire becasue they were kept in a metal tank. These documents provided the information which led to finding the Parish Records in Nimburg, Baden Germany which showed the baptisims, marriages, and deaths of his family and ancestors. These Parrish Records had been filmed by the LDS Church and were available through their Family History Centers.

    Michael and Augustrus Wierich bought 160 acres of land in Section 4, Tep 27, near Pilot Knob south of Galena, Illinois for the sum of $380. He sold the land in 1843 prior to his death.

    At the time of his marriage to Anna, she was Roman Catholic and they were married in the Schottenkirche in Vienna.

    Anna moved to Vienna with the mother when she was 13 years old. At the time of her marriage she belonged to the Roman Catholic Church and she married in the Schottenkirche in Vienna.

    Over the years she bought and sold many pieces of propoert in Galena, Illinois. She lived on Bouthillier St. in Galena. Her second marriage was to Anton Fink on 16 AUG 1853. Anton Fink died about a year or two later.
