Former Plantation Middle School Principal and long time teacher, Jean Lloyd Berry passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 9, 2015. Living at Covenant Village Retirement Center in Plantation, Florida, for the last 12 years, she was the first woman president of the Resident's Council. Jean was born in Indiana on September 11, 1922. She is the daughter of J.A. (Quill) Lloyd, the first Republican Sheriff of Broward County, and Erma Sanders Lloyd, long time first grade teacher having taught 39 years at Northside Elementary School. A recognized Pioneer of Fort Lauderdale, her family moved to the area prior to the 1926 hurricane. Jean attended local schools graduating from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1939. As a graduate of Florida State University with a Master's degree from Columbia University, Jean began her teaching career in Physical Education at Hollywood Central School. She served as Dean of Girls at McNicol Junior High in Hollywood, before becoming Principal at Plantation Middle School, retiring in 1978. Jean was a life time member of First Christian Church of Fort Lauderdale, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, choir member, diaconate and elder. Predeceased by husband, William A. (Bill) Berry, brother, Alva (Al) LLoyd and nephew, Douglas Lloyd, she is survived by daughter, Bonnie Berry Hingson, son-in-law, Robert H. (Bob) Hingson, Jr., of Granbury, Texas, grandson, Corey Hingson, and his wife Lisa , great grandsons, Will and Luke, of Plano, Texas, cousin, Sammie Lou Green and her husband Don of Fort Myers, Florida and Dr. Richard A. LLoyd of Ames, Iowa. Jean, was devoted to her family, friends and faith; she loved to sing and dance and enjoyed a really good joke. Exceptionally organized and thoughtful, she always gave a helping hand and friendly smile to everyone she encountered.
