Mr. John Stoner, an old resident of Gloversville, died on Saturday, August 5, 1887 of consumption. He was 58 years of aged. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon. Mrs. Stoner desires us to return her thanks to Canby Post, G. A. R. and all of their friends who kindly assisted her during her deepest affliction, the sickness and death of her husband.

John was born in Johnstown; he was the son of Jeremiah and Sarah Stoner. He married his wife,Catherine, around 1851. They had three children. 

John was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted on Oct. 3, 1862 at Perth NY. He mustered in as a private of Co. A, 153rd NY Volunteers on Oct 17, 1862. He mustered out with his company on Oct 2, 1965 in Savannah, GA. One of his assignments was to drive the ambulance wagon.

John was survived by his wife Catherine, his two daughters Mrs. Eveline Fosmire and Mrs. Mattie Freeman and his son Jeremiah Stoner. Burial was in the family plot in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
