- Opal Marie Hervey Stuessie, 84, Topeka, died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Stormont-Vail Medical Center. Mrs. Stuessie was born June 3, 1924 in Manhattan, the oldest daughter of George and Minnie (Haase) Hervey. She married Robert E. Stuessie on September 29, 1961 in Topeka. They lived on a farm in the Berryton area. Both were active members of the Berryton United Methodist Church. Prior to Mr. Stuessies death on June 3, 1998, they moved into Drury Place and Mrs. Stuessie continued to live there until her death. Mrs. Stuessie enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and sewing crafts. She is survived by two sisters and four brothers; Shirley (Walter) Richards, Natalia, TX; Elain Ellenwood, Papillion, NE; John (Roma) Hervey, Sabetha; Dan (Sue) Hervey, McPherson; Don (Lea Ann) Hervey, Scottsdale AZ; George (Alice) Hervey, Sabetha; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Harold and Lillian Velasquez, Berryton. Mrs. Stuessie was cremated and memorial services will be determined at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
