      HAMILTON, Ill. - Frances M. Schowalter, 74, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 12:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Keokuk Area Hospital.

      She was born on Jan. 31, 1926, in Keokuk, the daughter of Henry M. and Mary H. Fowler Schevers. She married Francis W. "Whoop" Schowalter on Nov. 29, 1945, in St. Mary Catholic Church in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1995.

      She was further preceded in death by a daughter in infancy.

      Mrs. Schowalter was the last of her family.

      She was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and Hamilton, having moved to Hamilton 27 years ago.

      Mrs. Schowalter worked for many years at Keokuk Steel Castings.

      She was a member of the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary, the All Saints Church Choir and was an Eucharistic minister.

      Mrs. Schowalter was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.

      Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk, with the Rev. Dennis Hoffman officiating.

      Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

      Visitation is after 4 p.m. Thursday at Greaves Mortuary, with family meeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Christian vigil services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

      Memorials may be made to the All Saints Catholic Church organ fund and the church building fund.
