Notes |
- A documented descendant of a James Harvey, who died in Livingston, New York about 1848, has taken a Y-DNA test which disputes his reported parents being Joseph Harvey and Sarah Colt (Joseph Harvey’s ancestry can be traced back to Thomas Harvey b. 1617) as reported in The Harvey Book. Therefore, DNA evidence dictates that some aspect of the account in The Harvey Book must be in error.
Research of the descendants of James Harvey (Harvey-8187) confirm good primary and secondary sources for most of that family for several generations of descendants down to Harvey-8181. Similarly, research of the parents as stated in The Harvey Book of Harvey-8187, Joseph Harvey (b. 1720, Harvey-2544), reveals no evidence, except for The Harvey Book, that Harvey-8187 was a son of Joseph Harvey & Sarah Colt or related to the grandparents Joseph Harvey, James Harvey & Polly Royce (or Rice).
Confirming other aspects of the accounting in The Harvey Book, research of other primary and secondary sources reveals that there is good source information of a James Harvey whose parents were Joseph Harvey and Sarah Colt, and for Joseph's ancestors back to Thomas Harvey b. 1617.
Once the account in the Harvey Book is discounted, there is presently no other corroborating evidence that Harvey-8187 was a son of James Harvey & Polly Royce (or Rice) or related to the grandparents Joseph Harvey and Sarah Colt. So, this leaves this one generation with no paper trail support that is found at this time. Therefore, James Harvey (Harvey-8187) has been disconnected from previously supposed Joseph Harvey and Sarah Colt.
Evidence also exists that more than one Harvey appears to have immigrated to the area directly from England during the same time period. While all these people were at the same place at or about the same time, this leaves the likelihood that this James Harvey's father was an immigrant.
