Notes |
- Michael was a Master Tailor for the Austrian Ruling Family and his wife Anna was a professional cook for the same family. He took an oath of citizenship in the town of Baden, Austria in 1827. He was married in Vienna in 1827 and immigrated to America in 1838. He immigrated from Hamburg to New Orleans 1 OCT 1838. The original documents were kept by John A. Binninger in his copy of the "History of the 96th Regiment." The book and its contents survived a disasterous house fire becasue they were kept in a metal tank. These documents provided the information which led to finding the Parish Records in Nimburg, Baden Germany which showed the baptisims, marriages, and deaths of his family and ancestors. These Parrish Records had been filmed by the LDS Church and were available through their Family History Centers.
Michael and Augustrus Wierich bought 160 acres of land in Section 4, Tep 27, near Pilot Knob south of Galena, Illinois for the sum of $380. He sold the land in 1843 prior to his death.
At the time of his marriage to Anna, she was Roman Catholic and they were married in the Schottenkirche in Vienna.
