Wayne Roth
Wayne E. "Shorty" Roth, 81, of Donnellson died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Park Place Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.
Born Sept. 28, 1924, in rural Donnellson, he was the son of Elmer and Ella Bentzinger Roth. On March 9, 1946, he married Beth Krehbiel in Joplin, Mo.
Mr. Roth worked for Dahms Chevrolet in Donnellson for 17 years. He and his wife owned and operated the Dairy Sweet in Donnellson for 25 years, retiring in 1987. He also drove a school bus for the Central Lee School District, a semi and a tour bus.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Donnellson. He was a World War II Army veteran. He served on the Central Lee School Board at the time Central Lee School was built. He served on the Donnellson Fire Department. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kathleen Keeler of Fort Madison, Cynthia Benner of Donnellson and Maribeth Holtkamp of Mount Pleasant; one son, David Roth of Donnellson; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother Ivan Roth of Donnellson; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitation is from noon to 7 p.m. today at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson.
The funeral for Mr. Roth will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Donnellson with the Rev. Judy Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in the Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson.
A memorial has been established.
