      Gabriel* Dutcher (Roelof, No. 12, Jan, No. 3, Willem, No. 1), b. 2 Feb., 1720 (bap. Athens, N. Y.); m. Dec., 173- Salisbury,
      Conn., Elizabeth Knickerbocker, bap. 7 Jan., 1722 (K., 2952); d. 23 April, 1793, in her 73d year (Dover, Dutchess Co., N. Y.); dau. of Cornelis Knickerbocker (see 39 N. Y. Gen., 1 21-12 2). Gabriel in 1742 was taxed on ^74 at Weatogue, Conn. {History of Litchfield Co., Conn., 521). De Duytscher Genealogy (Whittemore) contains many gossipy references, but is erroneous. Gabriel was a farmer, and returned to Dutchess Co., N. Y., and later, after his wife's death, lived with his son John, No. 333, in Cherry Valley,

      Three immigrant Dutchers, bros., are understood to have come from Holland, and set. near New-York City. One of these had a son named Gabriel. He was gt. gd. fr. to our Warren W. He had a son Benjamin, b. in Dutchess County, N.Y., July, 1742. He m. Thankful Benson, a woman of remarkable ingenuity, b. 1752. She may have been of German descent, which, however, is uncertain.
      They set. at first in White Creek, N.Y., but afterwards in Shaftsbury, Vt. They had 8 chn. ; the elder ones b. in New York, the younger in Vermont; viz., -

      John, b. Sept., 1775; never m. ; d. Shaftsbury, Vt., April, 1832.
      Peter, b. March 1, 1778; the fr. of our W. W. Dutcher.
      Seth, b. date not given; in. and set. near Syracuse, N.Y.
      Polly, b. date not given; m. Eli Goddard, and set. Marcellus, N.Y.
      Charlotte, b. date not given; m. Thomas Fowler, aud set. While Creek, NY
