Mary B. Hanning, 71, of Huntsville, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.
She was born June 4, 1931, in Rushville, to the late Joseph and Pauline Greenleaf Bovey. She married Glen R. Hanning Sept. 27, 1952, at the First Christian Church in Rushville. He survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Hanning (husband David) Childress of Danville, Peggy (husband Michael) Dillon of Gaffney, S.C., and Nancy (husband Richard) Willis of Clinton, Iowa; two sons, Danny (wife Janet) Hanning of Huntsville and Robert Hanning of Macomb; 12 grandchildren; three-great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Bovey of Iowa City, Iowa.
She attended Illinois State University in Normal and graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb. She taught various grades at Southeastern School District and Schuyler School District in Rushville many years before retiring.
She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Rushville, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She was a charter member and secretary for many years of the Illinois Association for Advancement of Archaeology; a member of Siloam Springs Earth Science Club, where she served as secretary, president, vice president, and editor; a member of Geodeland Earth Science Club, where she served as director and secretary; a member of Midwest Federation of Mineralogical and Geological Societies, where she served as president, vice president, state director and was currently serving as secretary; a director of American Mineralogical and Geological Societies; a member and secretary of Two Rivers Archaeological Society; and a member and secretary of Mississippi Valley Archeological Society. She gave programs on rocks and minerals for many school classes and civic groups, and also taught square dancing classes for Spoon River College and many 4-H clubs.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville, with David Haney officiating. Burial was in Huntsville Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Snyder's Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home or the Schuyler Education Foundation.
