      Joe Bill Parson Sr., 76, of Lyons, passed away September 6, 2019 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born September 3, 1943 in Spivey, Kansas, the son of Ova and Emma Counseler Parson. Joe was a Lyons resident since 1968; formerly of Spivey, Kansas. Joe worked as a block press operator at North American Salt of Lyons from 1968, until his retirement in 2006. Following his retirement he worked for the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Lyons; and delivered the Lyons Daily News Paper. He was a devoted husband, and enjoyed playing with the grandkids and great-grandkids in the park; woodworking; word search puzzles and watching pro wrestling. He attended the Church of the Nazarene, Lyons; and volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America, Lyons. On November 23, 1968, Joe was united in marriage with Shirley Ann Seyb in Kingman, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2018. He is also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Larry, Leroy, and Harvey; two sisters, Letta Mae Brown, and Elsie Denny; and grandson Stephen Spencer. He is survived by his step-daughter, Barbara Taylor of Pampa, TX; four sons, Johnny Parson of Great Bend, KS, Tracey Parson of Great Bend, KS, Joe Parson Jr. and wife Nellie of Chuluota, FL, and Jason Parson of Berryton, KS; sister, Nora Parson of Gravette, AR; and brother-in-law, Butch Denny of Topeka, KS; two sisters-in-law, Betty Parson of Rogers, AR, and Patricia Seyb of Franklin, TN; aunt, Aletta Hubble of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Church of the Nazarene, Lyons with Dr. Donald Strohmeyer officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Society, Lyons in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
