Richard H. Werner
EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. -- Richard H. "Dick" Werner, 75, of 420 Wall St., East Dubuque, died at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at ManorCare Health Services.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, with Monsignor Wayne Ressler officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where there will be a parish scripture service at 1 p.m. Members of the 330 Club will meet at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1934, in Dubuque, son of Russell "Spike" and Ruth (Beck) Werner. He married Darlene Green in 1955. He later married Patricia J. Brennan-Mayo on Jan. 11, 1974, in Dubuque; she preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 1994.
He was formerly an officer and partner in the Register Printing Co., East Dubuque. He was last employed as a part-time driver for Anderson-Weber, Inc., of Dubuque.
Dick was past president, former zone chairman and member of the East Dubuque Lions Club and past exalted ruler and member of Dubuque Elks Lodge 297, a former member of the Galena Golf Club and a member of the 330 Club of the Dubuque Shooting Society.
Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Szponer, of St. Charles, Ill., and Kristine (George) Hunt, of Naples, Fla.; a son, R. James (Kathleen) Werner, of Hopkinton, Mass.; two grandsons, Michael Werner and Cameron Hunt; five stepchildren, Denise (Chuck) Spielman, of Galena, Ill., Michelle Dominguez, of Cascade, Terry L. Mayo and Curtis R. (Pam) Mayo, both of Monticello, and Kelly P. (Darolyn) Mayo, of LaPlata, Md.; 12 stepgrandchildren;
12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jane Roth and a brother, Robert G. (Grete) Werner, both of East Dubuque.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, James "Gopher" Roth; and a nephew, Joseph Werner.
