Deceased Name: Olin Rings 04-10-2007
Born Dec. 29, 1913, in West Point, he was the son of Arthur and Mary Ann Schmidt Rings. On Oct. 1, 1932, he married Dorothy A. Kudebeh in Carthage, Ill.
He retired in 1975 from the A.T.S.F. Railroad after 33 years of service. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. He served on the church council. He was a member of the Masonic Order Stella Lodge No. 440, serving two years as master. He was active in Fort Madison Shrine Club, Davenport KAABA Shrine and the York Rite. He was a member of Retired Railway Employees, the United Transportation Union and Fort Madison Senior citizens. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels for a number of years. He was the manager of the Information and Tourist Center in Fort Madison for 14 years.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dwayne Rings of Parkersburg, W.V., Arthur Rings of Jackson, Calif., and Loren Rings of Brookings, Ore.; two daughters, Sherrill Sallen of Fort Madison and Vicky Gerdes of Keller, Texas; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 8 stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dale Rings of Saskatchewan, Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Rings will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at King-Lynk Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.
Memorials have been established for St. John's United Church of Christ and Shriners Children's Hospital.
