Betty’s children would like to thank all the family members and others who helped with her care so she could remain at home as she wished.

Betty grew up and attended grade school in Gray Summit, MO, graduating from Washington High School in 1948. After graduation, Betty continued her education at Hannibal-LaGrange College for two years and then transferred to the University of Missouri, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics in 1952. She was united in marriage to Bruce Mellen on June 21, 1952, in Biloxi, MS. The couple traveled the first few years of their marriage while Bruce served in the United States Air Force. Over the years, she led women’s mission activities, directed Bible school and daycare, and sang in the church choir. She also made weekly visits to local nursing homes and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Betty and Bruce were charter and faithful members of Faith Baptist Church in Washington, MO. Betty loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and together, she and Bruce read through the Bible many times, a practice she continued with her dear women’s Bible study group until now.
