On 18 Sept. 1764 Benjamin Dutcher of Beekman, (Pawling area) yeoman and Gabriel Dutcher of the same place, yeoman, put up bonds of £40 for Benjamin and £20 for Gabriel, to ensure that Benjamin Dutcher would care for the bastard child that he fathered on Elizabeth Backus, single woman of Beekman. The child was later b. on 3 Nov. 1764 at the house of Mathew Van Dusen in Beekman (Dover area). Elizabeth subsequently sued Benjamin in the Oct. court of 1767 for failure to pay a note

of £12 that he had signed 31 Dec. 1764.
