    "Col. Charles Little and William Adams both owned land adjoining GW’s land being surveyed this day. William Adams (1723-1809), son of Gabriel Adams, Sr. (d. 1750), and Priscilla Pearson Adams, had served as a colonel of militia, vestryman of Truro Parish, justice of the peace, and sheriff of Fairfax County. His home, Church Hill, adjoined GW’s land on the southwest. Adams was an early Methodist convert, and his home was headquarters for Bishop Francis Asbury when he was traveling in the area (Steadman [2], 223-24)."

    Gabriel Adams sold this tract 16 May 1733 to John Mercer for £40. Pricilla, wife of Gabriel, signed a release. (Pr. Wm. Deeds B:45)

    James and George Mercer, sons of John, sold this tract to George Washington. The deed was dated 12 December 1774 and was proved and admitted to record in the General Court at Williamsburg 15 October 1775. Washington tried to establish more precise boundaries and surveyed the tract four times during the period 1785-1799. The 790 acres and the Stenhen Gray 378 acre grant were known as the Four mile Run Tract. Details concerning Washington's efforts to perfect his title and protect his property are given in "George Washington's Four mile Run Tract."     About 1716 Gabriel Adams was living on John West's property near present day queen Street in Alexandria. (The location of his house is shown RS 1:6) He was a vestry-man of Truro Parish 1732-33. In 1745 the parish exempted him from paying the parish levy "for the future." (Minutes of the Vestry, Truro Parish Virginia, pp. 1-3, 48)

    Gabriel Adams received five Northern Neck Grants for a total of 2147 acres in his name. He sold three of the tracts within four years of the grant date; he held his 515 acre tract for 20 years and then sold 300 acres of it. In his will dated 19 January 1749 and proved 27 December 1750 he deeded various plantations and 100 acre tracts to his sons. (Fx. Wills A:428) By 1758 three of these 100 acre tracts had been sold, leaving approximately 300 acres of the original five grants.

    William served in Revolution in the VA Continental Line. Corporal, 1st Continenal Artillery , Col Charles Harrisons Regt, Captain John Champe Carters Co. #7. Appointed Bombadier 20 De c 1776. Was with Washingtons Army at Valley Forge from Dec 1777 to June 1778. Corporal at c amp near Chester, 9 July 1779. William received 100 acres of land from his father in Mason Co , Ky (on the Ohio and Millcreek), and moved his family there in May 1788. Francis died soo n afer reaching the fort. Francis Lewis was born in Page Co VA; died abt 1788 in KY; buried M illcreek KY.

William received 200 acres of land in Nelson Co K Y for services, but I don't think he ever lived there, b ecause he inherited 300 acres of lan d from his father in Mason Co, KY (on the Ohio River & Millcreek), and moved his family ther e in May 1788. Frances died soon after reaching the fort.
