A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, in Good Shepherd Community Church in Boring for Clair Howard Bartel of Gresham, who died Sept. 27 at age 80.
Clair Howard Bartel was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Portland. He graduated from Jefferson High School and Lewis & Clark College. He moved to Gresham around 1970. He worked for Gilsonite Inc., a business originally owned by his father, for 50 years and retired as president of the company. He married Diane Lois Clark in 1985.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Katherine Bartel, Kimberlee Bartel, Kristen Bartel and Karyln Fleming; sons, Kraig and Kevin; stepsons, Brian Groshong, Jeffery Groshong, Gordon Groshong and Greg Groshong; sisters, Wilma Wakkila and Fay DeKoker; brother, Richard; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
