    Lowell Nichols
    'Lowell Vernone Nichols, 86, of Luray, Mo. died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Scotland Co. Memorial Hospital.

    Born Aug. 15, 1922, in Davis County he was the son of Herschel and Naomi Humphrey Nichols. On June 9, 1945, he married Lena Marie Ayer in Keosauqua.

    Mr. Nichols farmed and drove trucks for Kahoka Cheese Co., Clark Co. Road District, Ayers Oil Co. and worked for Fruehauf. He owned and operated the DX Station in Wayland, Mo. He did maintenance work at Kahoka Senior Housing for five years. He enjoyed mowing, doing yard work, gardening and driving his team of mules and team of horses.

    Survivors include his wife; two sons, including Gilbert Nichols of St. Charles, Mo.; one daughter, Ilene Howell of Wyaconda, Mo.; Marie's brother's children whom he and Marie raised as their own, Sheila Wood of Kahoka and Herley Ayer of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

    Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

    The funeral for Mr. Nichols will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial will be in Wyaconda Cemetery.

    A memorial has been established.
