GALENA, Ill. -- Erin A. Schoenhard, 23, of Galena, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, of the eating disorders, anorexia and bulimia, a disease she struggled with the past eight years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Galena Bible Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena.

She graduated from Loras College in May 2007, with a bachelor of science degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. She planned to attend pharmacy graduate school in the fall of 2008.

She was presently working at the Locust Street Hy-Vee Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician.

Erin always had a smile on her face and her personality would brighten up a room. She loved her horse, Java, competing in numerous equestrian competitions where fun was more important than winning. She enjoyed her numerous pets, especially her newest kitten, Maddie. She also enjoyed spending quality time with her many friends, as well as spending time on the lake fishing with her brother, Blaine. Erin cherished the special times spent with her nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Surviving are her parents, Carl Jr. and Ann; her brothers, Blaine and Jon (Jodi) Schoenhard, both of Galena; her sisters, Jody (Mark) Calvert, of Galena, Sharie (Tim) Maloney, of Lake Forest, and Kim, of Florida; her grandparents, Francis (Dorothy) Oldenburg and Lorraine Schoenhard, all of Galena; her boyfriend, Sean Carter, of Galena; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Carl "Bud" Schoenhard; an aunt, Sherry Oldenburg; a cousin, Tony Oldenburg; and her uncle, Jim Schoenhard.

The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the Galena Police Department, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Department, the Galena EMT's, Midwest Medical Center and the staff in the Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Room at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque.
