Helen Buller apparently never married and always lived in foster care or with relatives:

1880, living as a foster child with Jacob A. and Katharine Krehbiel as a foster child
1900-1930, living with Henry and Eva Buller as their niece
1940, Living with Emil H Buller and family as his cousin

According to his brother Peter C. Schowalter’s account made in 1941, when his brother David Schowalter returned from Kansas in August of 1876, “he brought two girls and a little boy” (Donnellson Mennonite Church Family Register, entry for Schowalter Edward Henry and Koehn Elise). “The little boy did not live long in Iowa.” The other little girl is not identified. A close review of the 1880 US Census finds only two Russian-born children in Franklin Township, Lee County, Iowa, ancestor Else Koehn (listed as “domestic”), and Helen Buller, aged 14 & b. abt. 1866, living with Jacob A. Krehbiel’s family and listed as Ward-assistant housekeeper. By the 1900 Census, a single Helena Buller, b. abt. 1866, appears in the in McPherson, Kansas, listed as “niece” of Henry J. Buller, the same Heinrich Jacob Buller #283016, above. This provides enough information to identify her as Helena Buller #528580, also a Vaderland passenger, identified as daughter of Tobias Buller #77811, the same Tobias mentioned above. By 1940 according to the Census for Lone Tree, Lone Tree, McPherson, Kansas, USA, Helena Buller at age 76, was still single, living with her cousin, Emil Buller #83526, son of Heinrich Buller, above. It appears that these two girls may have traveled together on the Vaderland with Heinrich Buller #283016.
