- [S783] Settlers of the Beekman Patent, Dutchess County, New York, volume 2, page 288.
On 18 Sept. 1764 Benjamin Dutcher of Beekman, (Pawling area) yeoman and Gabriel Dutcher of the same place, yeoman, put up bonds of £40 for Benjamin and £20 for Gabriel, to ensure that Benjamin Dutcher would care for the bastard child that he fathered on Elizabeth Backus, single woman of Beekman. The child was later b. on 3 Nov. 1764 at the house of Mathew Van Dusen in Beekman (Dover area).
Elizabeth subsequently sued Benjamin in the
Oct. court of 1767 for failure to pay a note
of £12 that he had signed 31 Dec. 1764.
[AD 5217].
